WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF ACNE?
A clogged pore can be closed (whitehead) or open (blackhead). Sometimes germs that live on our skin, P. acne’s, can get inside the pore and cause swelling and redness (inflammation). This is called a pa-pule. With time, pa-pules turn into a pustules. If the inflammation goes deep into the skin, a cyst or nodule appears. In severe cases, scarring may result.
Acne involves mostly the face but often extends to the chest, back, upper arms, thighs and buttocks. The severity of acne can vary from mild/ grade 1 (whiteheads and blackheads) to severe/ grade 4 (cysts and nodules).
